15. Broken Wings, Burning Soul

[Intro – Clean, intimate / cinematic] My wings were never made To leave this world untouched They broke against the stars But they still carried fire

[Verse 1 – Clean] The piano fell through frozen air Like memory learning how to tear The skyline glowed in wounded gold A final warmth against the cold

The violins moved pale and wide Like ghosts that would not choose a side Low cellos pulled beneath my skin Where all the oldest wars begin

[Pre-Chorus – Clean building] I gave the sky More than I had I gave the light The best of me

[Pre-Chorus – Growl layer entering softly] And when it left And left me torn The fire stayed Inside my grief

[Chorus – Clean + Growl Layer] Broken wings, burning soul I fell apart but I did not let go Broken wings, burning soul Half made of ruin, half made of gold Raise the strings Raise the flame Let the dark remember my name Broken wings, burning soul Still rising Still whole

[Post-Chorus – Low Clean] Still rising Still whole

[Verse 2 – Clean] The organ breathed below the storm Like something ancient keeping warm Brass rolled slow behind the haze Like dying suns refusing graves

My feathers carried ash and light Black at the edges, gold inside And every scar across my back Was proof that I had made it back

[Pre-Chorus – Clean] I touched the ground It held my weight I touched the pain It opened space

[Pre-Chorus – Growl layer] No saint to save me No hand to hold Only the furnace Inside my soul

[Bridge – Clean / Choir / Growl] [Clean] Grand piano under a blood-grey sky Strings lifting slowly as the years went by French horns calling from the other side Like all I lost still walked beside me

[Choir] Rise though broken Rise though broken

[Growl] Tear the feather Break the bone I kept the fire I kept the soul Burn the weakness Strip the role You can wound the wing Not the whole

[Breakdown – Growl] I was never made for easy flight Never made for untouched white I was made for impact, flame, and strain For sacred loss and holy pain Let the bells ring through the scar Let the wound become a star There is no true becoming whole Without the burn inside the soul

[Orchestral Lift – Clean] Hear the cellos pull me upward Hear the choir open the sky Hear the brass turn grief to power Hear the broken learn to fly

[Final Chorus – Clean + Huge Growl Layer + Choir] Broken wings, burning soul I fell apart but I did not let go Broken wings, burning soul Half made of ruin, half made of gold Raise the strings Raise the flame Let the dark remember my name Broken wings, burning soul Still rising Still whole

[Final Lift – Clean / Choir] Broken wings, burning soul No clean ending, no perfect role Broken wings, burning soul Still enough to shake the throne Broken wings, burning soul Every scar became control Broken wings, burning soul I kept the fire I kept the soul

[Outro – Clean low] My wings were never made To leave this world untouched They broke against the stars But they still carried fire

Short Story

*A story about destruction that becomes the beginning of something truer*

The fledgling fell from its nest twice in the same week — once before it was ready, blown down by wind, and a second time after Senhor Aboagye had carefully climbed up and returned it, only for it to attempt flight too early and tumble again.

"It's hurt its wing now," his granddaughter Naomi said, cradling the small trembling bird. "Will it ever fly?"

"I don't know," he admitted. "But I know this — if we keep putting it back exactly where it fell from, without it ever learning what its own wings can do, it will never find out either."

They made a small nest instead in a low box near the garden wall, close enough to the ground that falling wouldn't hurt, far enough from danger to be safe. For two weeks, the bird hopped, flapped uselessly, fell, tried again — each failed attempt a small private disaster that looked, from a distance, like nothing was improving at all.

"It's not getting better," Naomi said one evening, discouraged.

"Watch its wing, not its success," her grandfather said. "Every time it flaps, even in falling, the muscle gets a little stronger. The falling isn't separate from the learning. The falling *is* the learning, happening in a shape that doesn't look like progress yet."

On the fifteenth day, the bird flapped, lifted, wavered — and did not fall. It rose unsteadily over the garden wall and did not come back.

Naomi cried, surprising herself. "I wanted to see it fly for real. Not just disappear."

"It flew for real the whole time," her grandfather said gently. "Every fall was real flying, just incomplete. You only got to see the version where it finally worked. But the broken wing, the bad falls, the days that looked like failure — that was the actual flight happening, the whole time, in a form too early to recognize."

---

*What looks like falling is sometimes the only way real flight ever begins. The destruction and the breakthrough are rarely separate things — they are the same motion, witnessed at different moments.*
